Unhappy

Anyone know of any options for some decent lighting for the MY01 other than Morettes + HID at not far short of a grand

STI7 lights look different to the naked eye are they HID?

Tonight driving home on mucky roads I might as well been pointing a torch down the road

Cheers

Simon

Simon,

Just fitted the Cibies to a MY01 at the weekend (1.5 hours+30 minutes setting up) the results are excellent IMHO especially since I got them second hand but still boxed.

Just a slight change to the MY93~MY00 fitting instructions, I removed the coolant bottle from behind the radiator (2x10mm bolts) and used an earthing point about 5 inchs down the n/s inner wing.

Once fitted take the time to set them up properly otherwise you are just lighting up the hedges/trees. Using soft rubber grommets (5mm thick ) behind the mount bracket I managed to get close to the best setting. Also helps to take some of the vibration out of the light unit and hopefully extend bulb life.

Have to say Simon, that the HID Morrettes are pretty damn impressive!! Had mine fitted yesterday Before the HIDs were fitted,my Morrettes were fitted with some fancy Osram bulbs which were pretty good too. I assume they are standard H4 fitting, so they should fit in the normal lamp units - might be worth talking to Mr Croney?

Cheers

If you are on standard bugeyes, there aren't many options without spending a lot of money - it's only a bulb change to Philips Vision Plus, Osram cool blue, PIAA or similar.

The STI7 lights are not HID but projector lenses same as Morettes.

Mine - Morettes, HID in the dips, Philips Vision Plus in the mains, plus PIAA drive lamps with 130w bulbs - no vision problems, but as you say it's about £1000 worth...

Chris - the HID's are good, aren't they
Presumably you persuaded Cheam to fit them as per your call....

Hi Dave

Yeah they fitted them - can't think why there was a problem - I've seen at least a dozen manufacturers offering them as options.

I'm thinking about doing the driving lamps aswell - there are a lot of unlit roads around this part of Herts and it would be well worth having additional lighting power for those roads.

One thing Dave - how far do your HIDs reach? I think the garage may have been ultra conservative with their alignment and set them very low? How easy is it to adjust them (all the instructions are still with the garage).

Cheers

Hi Chris

My HID Morettes now reach about 1/4 mile on dip - as you say, they all seem to be set way too low.....

Resetting them is a bit fiddly, but can be done in about 30 minutes.

Below is a post I did in reply to Tony Burns that answers it, cos I am being lazy (it's nearly time to hit the wine bottle ).

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=60479

The top adjuster controls vertical alignment, the one at the side of the dip beam controls horizontal.

Or, if you fancy a run over, i'll do them for you

Here is my setup - first picture is HID only, second HID plus main beam/PIAA.

As you say, it aint cheap, but the light output is awesome.....

You should have taken that as a compliment, it must be the way you drive

Ta for the responses.

I was hoping for an interim measure better than the Phillips but not as expensive as the Morette/HID option.

However I think I have decided that the lights are just so plain awful that I'll do the Morette/HID thing and have done with it, I think my safety is worth more than the money

Cheers

Simon
