Check engine indicator

Ive had my Impreza for over a year and all of a sudden my check engine light has started to come on! It isnt on all the time and doesnt stay on for long. Please could someone let me know what might be wrong?

What type and year Subaru is it mate ? With these things you need to be a little more descritptive.

Sorry your right! Its a 1995 Jap Import WRX. Its stopped doing it now but still a bit of a worry?
