Default rise in revs

hope some one can help bought my 2000 classic shape bout 3 weeks ago and have noticed that if i drop from fifth to fourth or fourth to third when the revs reach 3500 the engine sounds as if the clutch is slipping and rises to around 4000 then sits at this for a couple of seconds till my speed catchs up what could be causing this ?

It's a bit unusual to get clutch slip coming down the box and I'm not really sure I understand the symptoms. Best test for clutch slip is to accelerate up a long steady incline in 3rd or 4th and dip the clutch while accelerating. Revs should rise then snap back as the clutch is released. If the revs take a while to settle back after the clutch is re-engaged it is slipping.
