Rear window defogger switch wiring help
I have been working on trying to fit the later dash etc into my 95sti.
I am at the stage where its just the later Hazard & rear window defogger switches which need wiring up. The switches are from a 98sti (face lift dash).
The earlier switch when press on illuminates the defogger symbol in the dash clocks, the switch itself does not illuminate.
The later switch has a built in bulb which should illuminate when pressed & nothing on the dash clocks.
Having looked at both earlier & later wiring diagrams I am a bit puzzled as how to wire in the later switch. I have included a link for both wiring diagrams.
The pre96 diagram is correct.

The later diagram is from a 2002wrx model, I could not find the v5 wiring diagram. but the switch seems to have the same layout design.

I am not great when it comes to electrics but just by looking at the later switch picture diagram there seems to be a resistor type system which activates the 2 upper contact? Not sure how this works.
98sti switch wire colour codes
No specific pin order
1. violet
2. Orange/white
3. red/blue
4. black
5. blue
6. green
7. black/white
Whilst working on the speedo clocks I found out that Violet was for illumination power (12v) & the orange/white was illumination earth. This works on the speedo clocks. However does not do nothing when tested/powered up on the switch itself.
The only 2 pin outs that make any connection whether or not the switch is pressed are 3 & 4, this also lights up bulbs when supplied 12volts.
Anyone got any ideas or know how to wire this in correctly.
Thanks Ticky
