Default ecu problem need help please!

hello to all tchno bods, need some help my car is nackerd,
bought a wrx ecu off a 97 classic put it on my 98 uk turbo
the car won't start, the engine turne over but will not fire.
so removed the ecu put the original back on, still have the
same problem, any ideas would be appreciated.

The '98 cars have a gizmo in the key that "talks" to the ecu, and only if recognised, will the ecu allow the car to start. I wonder if that's the prob, perhaps the key now needs reprogramming?

Dunno enough about ecus after that, sorry.

have just checked the ecu, was sold to me as a 99/2000
ecu,

a 99/2000 ECU wouldnt fit your car as the connections are different.
