Question Removing Rear Lights

Hi

Little help please.......

I'm trying to remove the rear lights on my 2000classic, as one of them is cracked. Took the 4 nuts of the back, but they would not budge. Is the piece of bodywork directly below the light attached to the car or the light....

If attached to the car, how do i remove it?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

The metal strip is actually attached to the light, so that is not what is holding the light cluster in.

I think that there are actually five nuts holding the unit in, four in a rectangle sort of shape and a fifth on its own around the corner, covered up by the boot trim (does that make sense!!!).

The clusters will also be held with a sealant, depending on whether they have been removed before. The original Subaru sealant is quite tough and rubbery. I heated mine with a hair dryer and used a blunt knife to break the seal along with lots of wiggling. Once out cleaned with meths and same blunt knife to scrape off the residue.

When looking for a replacement sealant for refitting, I couldn't find anything exactly the same, and didn't want to use ordinary silicone sealant. Eventually I settled for a product called Dum-Dum wasn't easy to get hold of though and ended up getting it from a classic car spares shop, but it is quite similar to the original sealant.

Have a look at:

I don't know how many bolts there are on the saloon lights.

Mine has a small water leak so I need to take it out. As I expected the
sealant has to be softened with a hairdrier. Usually takes a few minuties
for the heat to soak through and it should just pull free.
