Question ECU Resetting???

Hi..... I've got a MY95 UK Turbo Wagon. Light mods i.e Full Stainless Exhaust(Not De-Catted) Induction Kit, Dump Valve but as far as I know standard other than that. Got the car as a Finance Repo so no history with it and overall really happy with it but sometimes it's really hesitant. This can happy when taking off or at speed. It just seems to hit a mega flat spot but if you dip the clutch and blip the throttle it clears.!!!! A mate of mine say's that the ECU needs re-setting. Does this sound right??? I've changed the plugs and oil and cleaned out the air filter. If it does need the ECU re-setting how do I do it??? Is it a garage job??? A bloke on E-Bay is selling instructions how to do it but am I gonna do damage to the car??? Any Help Would Be Appreciated.!!!!!

id do it slightly different diconnect the battery join the positive and negative cables together securely (cable tie vice grips etc)have a cup of tea/coffee come back 20mins to half hour later connect back togeather job done the reason for joining the cables together is to drain the capacitors in the ecu so it learns new parameters etc

flat spots could be caused by worn or damaged coil packs so worth checking them out first thing before ecu reset.

Lift the rubber bits on the coils and check for cracks etc

if they are cracked replace them
