Default Help in fitting a Oil Temp Gauge

Hi folks, I have an oil temp gauge, i think its made by Auto Gauge that has 2 wires on the Temp Sender. A white wire and a Black wire. The instructions only show a single wire connection to the sender. This has got me stumped.

Could the black wire be a extra earth. As I thought the sender was earth by the virtue of it being screwed into the block, so not sure now.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Mark.

Question

How many terminals on the rear of the gauge?
How long are the wires on the sender?
Are they terminated, or bare wires?
Are there any other wires in the kit?

Default help in fiting a oil temp gauge

Hi. The gauge itself(not including the bulb wires) has 3 wire stud points.

1 marked 'S' which goes to the sender
1 marked 'G' which is to ground
1 marked + and is noted as to ignition switch

the 2 wires on the sender are approx 5 inches long. The black insulated wire has a female bullet connector and the white insulated wire has a male connector on it. No other markings on the sender

I do think this black wire is a extra earth and the white wire is to he gauge but wanted to be sure before i fit it.

thanks
Mark.

the black will be an earth mate.... it's there beacause the sender will be the same if you wanted a water temp gauge, and with it being in contact with water needs an earth.

wire it up, and if the needle goes straight to the top of the gauge, wire up the earth aswell.....

i know this cause i've just done mine!

hope this helps
