Question resetting ecu?

How is this done? have tried searching the forum for the answers but not been sucessful yet.

I have also been told that this would help the car run better as its possible it hasnt alweays been run on good fuel and the ecu adjusts itself to suit the fuel as best it can. is this true?

any help really appreciated on this one guys
