Dodgy ignition/key?
Morning!
Have got my scooby back at last (bump in the rear) Yay!!.... but have skillfully flattened the battery last night and now can't start him. Basically the issue is not that but my ignition switch. It's always been dodgy and you can remove the key when the car's running. When you turn the car off the barrel isn't fully rotating and that's why I left the car on "accessories live" last night.
Is this a badly worn key (I only have one key and one immobiliser) or a badly worn barrel - or both?
Anyone got a barrel and key?
Difficult to change?
Thanks guys!
Here goes the phone call into work....."My car battery's flat...." I say...."You've slept in again!" they hear.....

Sorry to drag up an old topic..
My other half's WRX had the same problem, the ignition key just falls out of the barrel, and to make it worse it could be started with a screw driver..
Dodgy I hear you cry.. Ahh but alas it wasn't a punched barrel.. The wafers in the barrel had jammed in the "unlocked position", luckily a mate of mine is a auto lock smith, he cleaned and lubed the barrel and now its perfect..
He tells me this is a VERY common problem, they either seize up in the locked position and the key stops working, or they seized in the un-locked position and you can use anything to start the car.
Worth checking your barrels!
