Default Elec window not working - low voltage issue

My passenger side window on my new age WRX has stoped working. I am getting a reading of just 2.5 volts across the terminal going to the motor, when I hook it up direct to a 12 volts supply the motor works fine. I'm getting the same reading of 2.5 volts at the switch. Any ideas what could be causing the voltage drop? poor earth/dodgy connector? any way I can trace this back to source with a volt meter? may be coincidence, but I have just had a phone car kit fitted and the chap was working in the passenger footwell... I'm no expert on electrics, so any pointers welcome.. cheers.

With further investigation seems I have 12 volts going to the motor when the switch in the 'up' position, 2.5 volts when in the 'down' position, is there a seperate earth for each of the 2 switch positions which may be faulty?
