Smile Oil Pressure sensor wire?

Hi all,

I recenly bought some cheap SpecR gauges - (the one that has 7 colour display)

I am trying to fit oil pressure gauge by myself. The instructions are not very clear. On the instuction leaflet it shows only the 1 sensor-terminal to be connected to sensor wire and the thread is earth. When I looked at the actual sensor it has 2 terminals, 1 is marked S and the other is W.L./G.
If i am right, I suppose the 'S' means sensor signal. So whats the other terminal for? must be ground or live?????

I also was worried about what happens to the OE pressure sensor? I have been told just to remove it and install new unit. Dont you think the OE one is connected to ECU? wont it mess up things!!!

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Question

W.L/G...........Warning Light/Ground???????????

AFAIK the OE sensor is just a switch for a warning light on the dash. It certainly was on my classic.

It's set at too high a pressure to be effective too..............ditch it.

Aye - thus why it's often known as the "engine is fcuked" light

Suggestion - have you got a multimetre?

Set it on resitance mode and measure the resistance between earth and the terminal with the engine off.

Then do the same with the engine running. And compare

If it shorts to earth (0 ohms) when NOT running and is open ciruit (infinte resistance) when the engine IS running - it's for the oil pressure light.
If it varies in resistance with revs - it's for the gauge.

It won't be an earth connection...as the engine believe it or not makes quite a good earth connection via the sensor body

It won't be a Live connection, as that will be supplied to the gauge, not the sensor

Hope that helps
