Question

Hi All,

I've been offered some Hella HID driving lights from a contact in the Rally trade and would like to fit them to my MY95. I like the look of the P1 surrounds, which I think will fit (does anyone know the size of the mounting/opening in these?).

Anyone know where/how I can get these, or something similar?

The size of the P1 Hella Gas Discharge lamps are 90mm. They are
available direct from Hella or their stockists as a standard
supplied part. They are not cheap!

The surrounds are a bit more of a problem. These come together
with the lip spoiler via Subaru parts, but they are a bit cagey
at the mo about letting the general (non P1 buying) public have
them. I believe they are even stricter now than they used to be.
You need to find a wrecked P1, trace the owner or find someone
who'se smacked their f/end & already has the surrounds. Not
AFAIK available separately (unless someone knows different).

The lights then sit on a bracket that attaches to the original
fog-light mounts. Where you'll get them from is again uncertain -
see above?

You can also get the standard size HIDs (same size as fogs & as
fitted to Pete Croney's MY01) & they don't cost much different.
The cost is in the bulbs, not the lenses.

Nimbus,

Problem is though, the surrounds are designed for a MY99/00 front end!

Also the brackets will be needed for the Hella lamps - Not easy to get hold of!

Sorry if that doesn't help you, but it might be an excuse to update the front end of your car!!

Thanks Chaps, (Got your e-mail ptmw.)

Getting the lights themselves is no problem. I've already been offered some at V good price. It's just a question of where to put them. I don't want to pass up the opportunity with these lights but it looks like this is going to be a bit more difficult that I first though. I'll have to look at some alternative positions for them perhaps and see what mountings I can get for them.

Andy,

Yes, I though of that this morning!! Although upgrading the whole front end does appeal, it's just not on right now..

cheers

Nimbus

How about getting a set of the clear "blanking " plates. Fitting the lights to the car and then clipping on the covers and drawing round (no pun intended) the lamp and then cutting the hole with a holesaw ? and then sparying them the required colour...........

Failing that the same could be done with a card template.........and non transparent covers of your choice

worth a go if you can find them second hand i reckon?

Diggy,

What sort of covers do you mean? The STi type? Not sure where to get them from though. Any one know where I could get something like this?

Been thinking about some sort of DIY job for this but I just know it's going to end up more hassel than it's worth...

I'll keep an eye out for some bits. See what I come up with...

cheers guys

Nimbus,

Slightly different idea, but ian/555 has put some of these into some morette lamps. Have a look for posts on morettes recently, he mentioned it there.

Might be another option?

Neil.

I thought about doing this to my97 and I was going to use a set of Fog lamp covers (STI ones) and cut into them mounting the lamp behind on a bracket.

I bought a set of fibreglass covers, (For Sale £25- Cost £50), just never got round to doing it, as I may be selling the car for a MY01.
Just a suggestion, my first on Scoobynet

Hi VKL,

Are you selling the covers? Do you know if they fit the MY95 bumber?

I am certain they do, I don't have any fixings for them, you will need to get bolts, if you want them email with your address and I'll send them.

VKL,

Thanks. I should be getting my hands on the lights sometime next week. When I've had a look at them and know if I want them I'll e-mail you and we can sort something out.

Cheers
