Do Scooby's eat headlight bulbs?
#1
On the way into work this morning another headlight bulb gave up the ghost. That's the 5th in less than a year- two lots of PIAAs and a Powerwhite. I never switch lights on and off unless the engine is running. Any one else had similar experiences?

Never had any problems with the headlamps. I'm still on the originals after 2yrs. I was going through PIAA spots like there was no tomorrow. I must have went through 6 sets of bulbs - to the dealers expense I might add.
I switched to Halfords spots and (touch wood) they are still going strong after 3mths. Could hardly get 3 weeks out of the PIAA's.
I'm not convinced paying a premium for the PIAA's is worth it.

Kav, I've had the same trouble with PIAA Superwhites, and so have quite a few others. Do a search around last autumn time.
Having agonised over turnning the fogs into spots or fitting a twin-headlight set-up - both expensive option - I stumbled upon a Halfords twin pack of 100/80w bulbs for £7.95 and thought I'd give them a go.
Wow They are brighter than the PIAA Superwhites (£90 a pair) and the lighting is now acceptable.
I had serious concerns about overloading the wiring or melting the reflectors, but my dealer said it was okay and I believe some imports are already fitted with 100w bulbs. Other people have confirmed this is okay, even if it is technically illegal.

Andy Batters (Macs Garage) on IWOC is selling Osram silver star H4 Xenon plus 50% bulbs for £15 delivered
I have got some and they are very good can't comment on life span
make sure you do not strat your engine with the lights on i.e. the switch as this causes a spike and kills the bulbs in time

I have had problems with PIAA Superwhites blowing as well. I now use the Philips Vision Plus Blue bulbs. Cost about £10 each and give out a nice blue/white light.
