Question

Does anyone know where you can get the rear lamp clusters that have the orange bit clear and use orange bulbs instead?

I hear they are standard on the Jap imports??

Thanks
Kurt

Try a breakers yard from in the exchange and mart under Subaru, a mate of mine got some from there.
Have a look under the private catagory and look up kurt. Just noticed it......

Thanks Bajie

Looks like I'll be digging a bit deeper into the savings than I anticipated.

Cheers

Getting the old ones off and fitting the new ones without them leaking is a real chore.

My mate's boot ended up like a swimming pool after one of our glorious summer rainy days just after he changed his. It took three attempts to get the seal right. He reckons you either have to have arms like a gorrila or imagine you are ripping the taxman's head off when removing the ones you have fitted, as the gunge holding them grips like hell.

Darn picture didn't come up!
Search on Subaru and you will see a blue model with clear indicators on the rear cluster.
Very nice.
Some max power candidates too, but pretend you don't see them.

Kurt,

Anil here. Tesh told me you'd bought a P1.

Send me an e-mail on anil.ootam@ecoft.co.uk to tell me how you're getting on.

Used to have a Scooby turbo, got something else now, won't say what for fear of being flamed.

Regards,

Anil

I think Deamon Tweeks do clear rear light clusters too.

Anil

How ya doin!

Get your fireproof overalls on!

I know you gave up waiting on your P1 and got yourself an EVO.

Got my 18" prodrive wheels on now since I saw Tesh and the car looks bloody marvelous. I've also got the Prodrive backbox and big brakes.

How's the EVO?

See ya soon.

I've heard you need some kind of bulb adaptor to take our fog light setup into consideration. GGR seem to be the only ones who mention this.

Anyone know otherwise?

Bajie,

They are despatched by Air Mail so it may be up to a week longer. They have to clear HM Customs as well so they take a while....

Thanks

KurtW,

I bought a Fog light adaptor from GGR to get rid of the horrid fog light that was mounted under the rear bumper. The said adaptor from GGR was in fact (If I can remember the exact details!!!) was a bulb holder for Ford Sierra front indicator !!!!!!.

I had to slightly modify it as well so it would fit into the Drivers side rear reverse light hole in the light cluster ( obviously I removed the bulb and wiring for the reverse light!!).

So my guess whether you have a Jap import or get the clear light clusters you could do this mod.

I would suggest visiting a Motorstore to find said bulb holder instead of going to GGR.

I paid about £12 for said item ( what a fool I was!!!), so In my opinion GGR are misleading the "Subaru" Public.

GavinP,

I had a look at the Subaru parts site, and price was approx. £150 for the pair.

The price you quoted in your post, is that all in???.

As well as that, because i have never bought from abroad, do you have to pay V.A.T or any decloration Tax when it goes through customs.

Finally, did you order on line or over the phone.

Sorry for being such an idiot, but I may well go this route as well.

You will be liable for import tax (2% IIRC)on top of value of goods and postage combined, you will then also be liable for VAT on the total of that amount.

Sometimes the odd one slips through the net, but usually you will get a bill for the taxes.

That can come anything up to 3 months later?

Thumbs up

I sent them an email as there is no on-line tracking.
They've been despatched and as you say should take a week or so to arrive.

I received my rear clusters just now - along with the bill for £51.89

So the two clusters + shipping is £180 approx + £52 duty/VAT = £232 in total.

This is cheaper than anywhere I have seen in the UK but the margin is not a huge amount.

I know Revolution were selling them for £250 but I think(?) they have recently put their prices up.

Thanks

Delivered (UK), total cost will be £233.17. Prices are in our new Prodrive section.

I put them on this afternoon and they are a pain to fit.

There are five bolts holding each light in place along with lots of black goo.

Once you have undone all of the bolts, you need to gently prise the cluster away from the body all around the unit and then wiggle it vigorously to remove it. It is not too keen to come off.....

The trim strip under the light is attached to the light unit (three screws underneath)and is removed all in one piece so don't bother trying to remove it before the light (like I did )

Anyhow, the car looks much better now...

Thanks

After a monsoon overnight, I've just had a look at the area around the lights does feel damp to the touch.

I think I will get some silicon sealant and make sure that I don't get flooded....

Thanks

Yeah do that ASAP, once water starts getting in then it bloody gets everywhere. Had a Mk1 Golf Gti many many years ago that used to do that, in winter the bloody carpets got soaked thru!

I went down to B&Q earlier and got some flexible frame sealant which I have now "liberally" applied around the clusters.

The stuff is completely waterproof and won't crack - and cost less than £5.

The stuff comes out like toothpaste and is messy - take a cloth with you if you try it!

I guess time will tell how effective it is..

Thanks
