More on Driving Lights
#1
Having read lots of your posts on this topic, including rjc's exelent and incredably helpful site.
Whilst cleaning my fogs today,it occured to me, in my probably less than infinite wisdom, that the only diference between a fog light and a driving light is the reflector. So I wonder if anyone has perhaps contacted the makers of said fogs to see if they can supply other reflectors. Thus saving all lots of time and MONEY££££.
Or am I living up to my handle
Fiasco.

On a lamp with a clear (optically correct)lens (glass), the beam pattern is dictated by the reflector shape. On a lamp with a diffused lens, the glass dictates the beam pattern (or sometimes both reflector and glass together).
The bottom line is, it depends on the lamp.......
In any case, most lamps come with the reflector and glass sealed together, and to replace this is almost as much as a new lamp. PIAA may be the exception (as mentioned above) but then they are twice as much as other lamps to start with.....
