I have an MY99 and need to upgrade the headlight bulbs. I know in the FAQ it states that MY99's can not run 80/80 bulbs but people have stated they have run them without a problem. I was thinking if the PIAA plasma bulbs. Does anybody have any experience/advice?

thanks in advance

Julian

Purchased mine from Demon Tweeks, don't know anywhere else that sells them, also in hindsight IMHO they are not worth the extra cash over the Halfords versions they are better but not £50 better.

Which version of the Halfords ones do you all use (if at all)

I called in, and noticed they had 3 types,

All Weather (Supposedly multi coloured)
Laser Blue
Xenon

Thanks

Steve
I thought this subject has been done to death!!!
I have used all of the mentioned Halfords bulbs and rate them as follows:s
1st place - Plasma Blue - best light and although they warn you that they are not advised for high mileage drivers I had mine for more than 6 months without problem
2nd place - Xenon bulbs - these are supposed to be 30% brighter than standard bulbs but I onlt found them to be marginally brighter.
3rd place - standard bulbs
4th place - "All Weather bulbs" - THese are not as bright as standard and tend to give a yellowish light. They are very good in heavy rain and fog as the reflected light doesnt glare you as much.
Note: I noticed that the Plasma Blue bulbs upset oncoming vehicles. They seem to have a higher edge to their beam which means that headlamps need to be adjusted downwards by a garage with a headlamp beam aligning rig.
Hope above helps

Believe it or not, I have tried all three of the Halfords bulbs!

In a Citroen ZX, the all weather bulbs gave a very yellow light, poor at night, but great during fog or rain.

Also tried the Xenon bulbs in the Citroen, and it gave a very crisp white light, much improved over the all weather bulbs and the standard bulbs.

I currently have the Laser Blue bulbs which give a similar result to the Xenon, but they don't seem to give as white a light. Although they are just as bright. I think when they blow, I'll replace them with the Xenon bulbs!

Cheers
Andy

Well it sounds like 80/80 are no problem on an MY99. The Plasma Blue bulbs must be the ones but why are they not recommended for high mileage drivers? I do 20k a year. If demon tweaks aren't doing them then where can I buy them?

Thanks

You'll need a pair of H3s & H4s if you upgrade the fog lamps too.

The fogs end up much bluer than the headlamps - it must be something to do with the parts of the lamp that are reflected in fog lamp. I think much of the light is blocked off in the fogs to produce the beam shape.

Note, although it doesn't say in the Demon Tweaks Catalogue, they are not 'E' approved. It says it on your invoice though !
