Question Stereo/In Car Clock Losing it's settings

On my dad's car, everytime we turn off the car, it loses it's settings on the stereo and the in built clock. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing the problem?

The chances are its losing the permenant 12V supply. There should be a permanent 12V and a 12V that comes on with the ignition.

There should be a fuse layout in the manual, it could be a fuse under the dash or in the engine bay.
What car is it?

what car is it,

best thing to do is take both perm 12 v and ignition wires straight to a perm 12 v, this way you will always have power, no memory loss and you can switch the radio on when the car is off

It's a Honda Civic, i have checked the fuses, they seem okay. Not so sure about the above info though.

Its dead easy mate, and it stops alot of messing around.

only thing you need to remember is to turn the radio off so you dont flatten the bat

Did you only fit this radio or has it been like that from the start?
If it's been like that from the start - then as the lads have said, the power wires are mixed up. If it has only started to happen - then it has to be the fuse. I know in my old Civic the fuse for this was located in the engine compartment fusebox.

It's an aftermarket stereo, put in by previous owner, i'm going to check it this weekend. I've checked the fuses and they look fine. They are located inside the car.

I'lll try what you said bluep. Thanks....

If it's an aftermarket headunit then hopefully the loom connecting it to the stock wiring harness will have the red wire and the yellow wire connected in the middle with bullet connectors.

As mentioned, you need to swap these over so if at the mo, red on the headunit end is going to red on the car loom end and same for yellow, you need it so that red goes to yellow on each end.

Some cars have the permanent +12v on say the red wire, others have it on the yellow, with the switched +12v being the opposite. Other makes have permanent +12v on yellow and switched on Red.
