I'm pretty sure this came up last year some time, and IIRC, tha answer was to wind them down to minimum:
You can check to see if you have an asymetric dip, (which is the kind that CAN be altered for continental driving), by shining the lights on your garage door/a wall etc from about 8 feet away: if you HAVE , it will produce a beam pattern like this: ( top edge only, shown)
|\___ |\___
What you're aiming for is to cut off the two top |\ bits, leaving this:
____ ____ as the top edge of the pattern.
On cars with markings on a fairly "normal" light unit, it's easy to see where to put the tape: its a sort of triangle at about 7pm to 9pm from the centre of the light.
On some lights, like on the Xantia HDi we regularly go to France in, it's trial and error, but the same principal............I end up doing it by moving bits of card infront of the light until the "finger" of light at the left hand edge disappears, then replace the card with black tape.
If your lights DON'T produce that sort of pattern on a wall etc, you can't do this.
Hope this is of help.
