I seem to have a problem with my electric aerial when i put the radio on the aerial goes all the way up but the motor doesnt seem to stop running and likewise when the aerial goes down, when it has gone down the motor just constantly runs even when ignition is off and doors locked , is there some type of switch inside the areial that operates when the aerial reaches its maximum / any help would be appreciated

No, some of the JDM cars have an electric one in the nearside rear quarter. The rest get the manual one in the A-pillar 
Edited to say yes, there'll be limit switches on it, although how easy they are to get at is anyone's guess.
May prove less hassle to get another aerial from a dismantler.
