Need some info on ignition coils

I would like to know what use the four wires have on the ignition coils. I assume one is switched +12V from the ignition switch and two wires are switch to ground control wires for the two coils. Now there is a fourth wire. Can somebody tell me what the use is of the fourth wire??? My car is a MY00.
