Question

Hi

In a rash moment thought i'd fit a new alternator to my wifes fiat cinquecento(or some such spelling).I've got the old one off having dropped the engine on one side to get at the top mounting bolt! However i need the pulley on the old one as the new one doesn't have one on it but the nut holding it on is tight and the whole thing spins so the only way i can stop it spinning is jamming a screwdriver under the fan blades but i eventually start to bend the blades as i put more pressure on it.
I know it's not a scooby question but assume all alternators are the same and was wondering if there was some trick i was missing.
Hope someone can answer this as the car's still in bits and the wife needs it next week!

Pete

Hi.....
Do you know anyone with a Socket impact gun? Either air or cordless, same as they use at tyre fitters 4 puttin the wheel nuts on,thats the easiest way of removing/applying the pully on the rotar shaft of the Alt,but you must hold the fans with a rag or something or it will just spin. Or if you have a vice or use of someones put the nut end into the vice and put some rag round the Alts fan and body and grip tightly with ya hands and twist, thats if the nuts easy to get to?
Hope this helps ya.....
