The full beam headlamps are terrible on my MY00, which is the most effective upgrade: Xenon bulbs or driving lights? What are the costs involved with these upgrades?

I haven't been down this route but if you're happy with the dipped beam on your car then the driving light kit (Cibie, I think) as supplied by Scoobysport (about £200) seems to be popular.

If dipped beam gives you problems then changing headlamp bulbs to 100/80W is a popular (and cheap - £15 per pair) improvement. Lots of people on here have run these without any problem.

There are other bulb upgrades - Philips, PIAA etc which seem to give improvements but do cost a bit more. I've only had experience of the PIAA bulbs - they do the trick but they are expensive (around £50 per pair IIRC) and I got through 3 pairs in less than 8 months.

Cheers

I'd go the driving light route. Main problem with the standard Scoob lights seems to be their design. Therefore, adding brighter bulbs just allows the extra light to be wasted too, although you do get SOME extra where you want it.
IMO you can't have too much light on the road on main beam.
The only prob is when having to switch to dips after using main beam, it's pretty dark!!

Yeah, I'm with alcazar on this one.

I've got PIAA's fitted and they're fecking awesome, but only good on main beam.

I've spoken to a few lads that installed some 100/80W bulbs and they said they didn't improve things all that much.

Apparently the PIAA Superbright ones are the dogs danglies, but are a tad expensive.

If you want improved dipped lights, then either fit some PIAA's H4 bulbs or upgrade to morettes, otherwise go for some driving lamps.

Kav,

Which PIAA's did you go through? H4's or the H3 spots?

I used the PIAA H3 bulbs, but they kept blowing every 3 weeks. Been running Halfords own for nearly 2 years without any probs.

Don't want to waste £50 when the H4's are gonna do the same.

Thumbs up

Stefan

It was the H4s mate and all I got from PIAA was some baloney about having a spikey voltage regulator - my @rse! They're just fragile.
