My bloody number plate lights seem to have stopped working

They have been a bit dodgy before but normally working most of the time, anyone ever removed these? Is it a simple job or am i as well taking it to a garage??

I reckon it's most likely a dodgy connection or something but i don't want to try and rip them a part and not being able to put them back together again

Question

Check the connections in the boot, and below the rear bumper.
You ARE sure it's not just bulbs, aren't you?

They are behind the 'hard' carpet on the rear panel of the boot.

Bulbs blow a lot on these, and the screws rust on the lamps themselves

*note* The number plate lights dont work when you put the 'parking' lights on...they only work with the ignition on

Wink

Hehe.. My Clifford alarm keeps the motor running as a turbo timer and i normally leave the side lights on permanently so I noticed they were out

I reckon the rust thing could be a problem, I'll try and take them apart when i get home to the folks in Grimsby next week (They've got a drive and a garage, i've got a top floor flat )

I reckon a lot of WD40 & steel brush will be in order

ricco, yep, got ya

When you refit the screws either use new stainless ones or coat the steel ones with a dollop of copper slip or similar

Thumbs up

Have to agree here. Every time I take anything off that doesn't require a high-tensile fastener, I replace said fastener with stainless.
Started it on the pushbike years ago, now it's second nature.

Red face

I reckon it's a design thingy about japanese cars If you look under the bumper on a European car where the lamps are, it'l be all nice and flush with a couple of little transparent plastic parts for the light to shine through.. On jap cars, you just get a bl00dy hole cut in the bumper and the lamps just poking through My old Charade turbo was the same

Oh well, i guess i've some work to do

Unhappy

Anyone know if these should be a phillips screw or an alan key bolt?? I've been trying to get through the rust today to get them off but it's proving slightly more difficult than i had anticipated

Any other tricks to getting them off or do i just need to stick with the '**** **** bollox' and bleeding knuckles for a few more hours??
