Technical...higher wattage (dont know if they are available), equals higher temp...might melt something

Legal...doubt it.

Not the brightest, but Halfords do a w5w bulb with a blue tint, look better than standard 'yellow'

Question

Can't see the prob with legality: Volvo's go around with "daylight riding lights" ("somebody, please, look at me: I've got a Volvo") on all day/night, and they're at least 21W.
I can't think of a single time the law would require sides without headlights, ie: ONLY sidelights, so why should it matter?

The only legal requirement for sidelights is when parked at night in a road where the speed limit is 40mph or more.

Thumbs up

Just replaced my Halfords (blue tint) bulbs with some Phillips - far brighter and really crisp white light.

Well if your bulbs are giving out a crisp white light, mine must be a soggy yellow. Must get some crisp bulbs :

Currently running 20W sidelight bulbs in a MY97 for 15 months now - no melting to report and they look so much better next to the 100/80W bulbs
