Has anyone tried to hard wire this unit in rather than use the ciggy socket - especially for an Sti v7 ??

I've hard wired a snooper.
+ (ignition 12v) and - wires to the back of the stereo. the wire then conseals itself up the side of the dash trim and below the bit of foam around the bootm of the windscreen.

There's an unswitched 12V on the hazard light switch which is even nearer. I used this to convert my ciggy lighter from switched to unswitched 12V. Forget the colour code though sorry.
