Does anyone know what this could be it’s connected straight into the ecu but there’s some cut wires on it?

Like the title says, I have a black box to monitor my driving style, and I'm thinking of getting an engine chip for my car. Any idea if the black box is at all connected to the ECU, and if not what complications might I run into?

Firstly, what car is it? ......no-one can help without info.
Secondly, "engine chips" are a really bad idea on Subarus. You'll find that enthusiasts on here would only trust a custom map by a recommended specialist.
The only issue that I can see connected with your black box is that a performance upgrade is highly likely to alter the way that you drive, in terms of acceleration, stopping and g forces.......all things that your black box monitors. And I'm assuming that you're a relatively new driver to have one? You'll need to inform your insurance, because in the event of an accident or claim, it's the 1st thing that an insurance company will check. Even if it's not your fault, you would be stuffed.
edit...obviously the insurance would be able to record the increase in performance .

To be honest this was removed that same week and chucked away as it was a crap way of getting a few extra bhp that the previous owner put in, it was already mapped out of anything I’d just get the car mapped instead of putting one of these in, it’s much safer for the car.
