I bought my 2004 WRX wagon last year, it had an aftermarket HID kit fitted. I have had a bulb go and I cannot find a replacement that matches what I have taken out. Can anyone help identify it? Some pics below, the silver label on the wire says 6000K on one side and 282941 on the other

The bulb you posted seems to be missing its mounting flange for fitting/retaining it in the headlight. Is the flange still clamped in the headlamp body?
I would also be assuming that the ballast supply wiring from the OEM bulb socket is still in place on the car?
Assuming bulb is for Dip beam and is an H1 fitment then any suitable 6000K H1 35W bulb for a conversion kit should be OK although the wiring connectors may need to be modified / tidied up.

Many thanks Don for replying. I nipped out last night to take a look at the back of the headlight after your reply. The flange is indeed still in the back of the headlight, it's held in with a large washer (somehow). It looks like something has broken back there previously and a little bodging applied. Yes, the ballast wiring is in the car. I will pick up a couple of bulbs with the sane connectors and see if I can get the flange sorted.
I was looking for flangeless bulbs which was throwing me off track.
They have the flanges on the bulb holder and both have snapped as they dont fit in far enough to the headlight bulb bolder (new bulb on left):
The back of the headlight showing the original bulb back in place just to demonstrate below, it fits snug in place. The 'filing' I though had been done to the original was in fact just the thread from the headlight, the original bulb I took out had not been modified or filed:

Comparing yours to a standard headlight and comparing the bulb shroud reflector yours have been converted to a projector type using non standard bulbs.
In your photo you can see the mod to the original bulb holder and the projector unit retaining ring (Headlight would have been taken apart to do this)
Something similar to these below although these are bi-xenon type (main and dip from single bulb) (yours maybe also) and use the original type (wire spring) bulb holder and H1 type HID bulbs.
