Default More M30 problems - how do I replace?

Greetings - my trusty 2001 bugeye wrx which I've had for 12 years worked fine - until it froze outside my ex-s house last weekend after I dropped my kid off! Had it trucked back by AA. New batteries in keyfobs don't help, and the pin code doesn't work. The lights flashes quickly after the 4 digits have been entered. I have a new M30 unit and fobs from a breaker. Do I need to just replace the keypad? Or the unit and keypad? Where is the unit usually? How many wires run from the keypad to the unit? I have only 4, and 1 appears to be cut near the socket. Thanks all in advance.
