Default dodgy wiring/electrics...?

bought a classic a month or so ago and theres a few dodgy things going on with the electrics...
the heated rear windscreen light keeps coming on by its self, i turn it off and a few seconds later it comes back on again . this has stopped happening as much now but still happens occasionally.
it looks like someone has butchered the cables behind the stereo as there is rather a lot of electrical tape floating about, plus the existing stereo doesnt turn off when the car turns off. i also tried to fit the stereo i had in my old car (100% working) i've got the right connectors, the display comes up but absolutely no sound, tried everything...
and the electric mirrors don't work...

any help much appreciated, i'm not sure if any of these things are common as i haven't got the greatest knowledge of subarus at the moment, or car electrics

Wiring is bleeding nightmare where ever it is.
I had a similar problem with a stereo I tried in my car, the only way it all worked was to turn the lights on and it worked fine lol. Not too bothered as I was only testing another another stereo to go in my other car and at least I knew it was working OK, one way or another.
With all the wires in dash, maybe boost gauges were fitted at some stage. I had to disconnect mine as it was playing up where the wires were loose and a couple had come off anyway

Not much help, but then I have no clue about wiring. Maybe find someone you know to have a look with you

Good luck!
