Buying a WRX, any advice?
I'm looking at buying a WRX. Just looking through the odd site/garage, it looks like I can get a good 2nd hand 07 WRX for under 10. Is there anything I should be looking out for here? I'm not looking for an STI, but I'd still want a bit of power. The WRX looks meaty enough, but I heard some bad things about gearbox and clutch, especially if the engine is modified? I'll probably go at the engine at some point, but stage II at most - any reliability issues with a standard WRX?
Also I turned 25 a few Months ago, which is why I'm looking for a faster car because of cheaper insurance. Been driving for 7 years with no claims, any insurance advice or guestimates? Edit: I'm in Northern Ireland btw. Probably be June-ish before I scrape together about 10k.
Cheers lads

Hi.... good luck with the search just do the usual checks - a Subaru is only a car just like all the others - HPi it check the service history against the mileage / mot's if there are any. Panel checks - straight good gaps etc.
Most of all don't rush into anything.
Again good luck

i would be looking for a slightly older STi. better setup if you want to start modifying your car slightly. insurance might be a killer for you though at 25.

When checking insurance quotes make sure you mention any mods. A stainless steal exhaust can make a huge difference. I found I could insure a 02 sti or a 07 wrx with no tracker req and a 01 tracker req.

Not really looking to go over 250-275. But if that range starts causing worries to the transmission/box on a WRX...?

see above for advice on stages/upgrading. Im sure wrx internals are fine for over 300bhp.
buy an sti all day long. if u get a wrx and get bitten by the modifying bug, which nearly every1 does then you will wish you had bought an sti in the first instance. wrx is good, its what i have....but sometimes i wish i had bought an sti. the insurance for me anyway when quoted was hardly any difference between the two.
good luck.

Buy an STI, otherwise you'll just spend thousands on it trying to upgrade things to that of an STI, yet still not be as good.
If its purely for a runabout and you will never modify anything...then a WRX will likely serve you well.
