Default UK Turbo or WRX

Well its not often i actually make a post about SUBARU's on SN but here goes.

Now that i'm 24 and will half 2years NCB (hope i haven't scudded myself) by June, I've been creeping onto Pistonheads and Autotrader looking at UK Turbo 2000's and WRX's. I would prefer a WRX but will the insurance be extortionately higher due to it being an import?

Although my car is realitively dead power wise it is rated at insurance group 13 will this help me at all when i do go to insure the likes of a group 17 vehicle compared to if i was running around in a 1.0 corsa for 2 years?

Try Direct Line for an online quote mate, also try the usual suspects Tesco,Admiral,Elephant, etc.
Direct Line might be your best bet out of the list, cheaper premium but it will have a higher excess.

UK cars are generally easier to insure.....also try adding parents and girlfriend onto the policy as named drivers...which may reduce the overall price....as long as you remain the policyholder there are no issues cover wise....

My first scoob was a MY99 UK Turbo 2000....and at group 17 it was still hard to insure with 7 years NCB and 30 yrs old.....think it was £1200 first year with Endsleigh....

Sure you are aware as well about the MAF related engine problems...especially on the MY99 UK cars and especially if they have a cone filter...just to make you aware

Good luck with the search....and if you are going to view a car try and take someone with a bit of scooby knowledge with you....saw what I thought was a good wagon recently, until the guy with me listened to the piston slap (I'm not tech savvy AT ALL)...and advised me to walk away...car was sold later that week for spares as engine went bang 2 days later

I'd say James your problem will be getting a decent example for reasonable money
Insurance for a 10 year old car shouldn't be too bad.

you're very much right there Urban, I've always preferred the pre-facelift classic models as they remind me more of the good ol' rally days but they seem to vary seriously in price and I'd like a close to standard car for insurance purposes which seem to fetch more money than modified examples which is understandable.

James I agree with Shaun, you'll be hard pushed to find a good example for decent money thats been in this country for any length of time.
If I was you I would be looking for a nice STI Ver 2-3 freshly imported or if you want an insurance friendly option get yourself a nice unmolested WRX,there's plenty available if you know where to look.

if you could point me in the right place to look, i'd be rather greatful!

I like the idea of having a WRX over a UK Turbo, its a psychological thing rather than anything else but I haven't even thought about an STi as the insurance companies will just laugh in my face!

Just watch Greenlight though
They don't/didn't cover imports and they required "experience" of driving a performance car I think

As said, UK will be loads easier to insure and there are some fine looking examples come up for sale on here with loads of good mods to bring them up to STI spec and better

Its a case of buying your time and searching wide and far to find an example to suit what you want
