Default Gearbox advice and help needed

Alright folks,
haven't really been on here in a while, since i sold my first scoob, well now i'm driving an 2001 2.0 N/a GX previously my mums, i have noticed ever since i got it that it crunches going into 3rd and especially 5th.
I have done a bit of research and the main thing that comes up is that it may be a synchro problem, would anyone with a bit more knowledge suggest anything else?
Well i phoned eastwoods and they couldn't give me a rough price as they wouldn't know what it was til they looked at it, would anyone have any ideas on rough costs as i'm trying to work how much i'm gonna need to set aside. Oh and another thing would eastwoods be my best bet, i had my last scoob there and they were top notch, or are there any other gearbox specialists about that i should get in touch with?? I wouldn't mind keeping it pretty local to belfast but will travel furthur if needs be.
Cheers for any help you's can give me!!

Try draining the oil thats in it, and filling it with Castrol Syntrax first.

Failing that, its a gearbox out job.
