Try Edwin Long in Newtownards (91813617) as he likes to keep a good "classic" shape car about. If you are new to Scooby ownership then buying from a dealer makes sense and a late classic shape car would be in or around your price range.
The reason I recommend Long's is that, although it looks like a small and somewhat untidy setup, they do take pride in their cars and a lot of their trade is repeat custom which is a good sign. I traded in my MY99 Turbo to them and believed the car to be in good shape. However, before they sold it on they went over it with a fine tooth comb and even changed the gearbox because there was a "wee noise so we couldn't stand over it." They have also been very good with the new car, though to be honest I've had no real problems. By far the best Subaru dealership I've had dealings with.
I would certainly buy another car from them and, in view of the going over my old car got, I would recommend them to anyone looking a second hand car as well.
I can't believe I've just said something good about a car dealer!! Could it be a government plot? Are they putting something in the water?

Sinky,
Had an Import in mind, but it seems to be impossible to insure one legit over here.
Load of **** I think. Damn things are made in the same factory! But try telling that to mr rip off insurance broker!
As soon as you mention Jap Import they dont want to know.
Even visited the guy in Banbridge-Gibson Motors.
Over the phone they said they hav someone who provides insurance, but when i got there no-one knew anything about it!!
He did have a nice white WRX MY97 with 60k km and fully kitted out, thing that bothers me is no history. He was looking £10k for it too, ouch!
Thats why I think im gonna settle for a uk spec.
Unless you have any ideas?
cheers,
Ricky.

I had a wee nose around a MY98 (I think)perhaps MY99 in Dark Blue in Donnellys Garage on Boucher Road in Belfast. Highish mileage, around 50,000, seemed in pretty good shape and certainly shifted when he took her round the boucher estate.
They were looking for 8.5k or thereabouts. Had a full service history from Eastwoods in Lisburn which they photocopied and gave to me, as well as a copy of the reg book.
That was 2 Saturdays ago, so it may be gone by now but maybe worth a call.
Sorry about being so vague with the details, but i was only looking about, adn can't remeber everything.

Hey jiggery poke..
had a drive in the scoob u talkin about!! sales guy was a w8nker. brakes were crap, very tired.(and they were 4 pots.) needed discs and pads.
seemed to go ok but if anyone can tell how a cars driving from a 2 min stint round apollo road its beyond me.
anyway, he seemed to think it was mint even though it had been roughed up inside and was stone chipped to hell.
bloody car dealers.. too used to selling cars to people who are afraid to look at them and point out something thats not right.
espically on an 9k car.. its **** being fussy!!

I noticed the stone chips on the bonnet - Obviously from a bit too much rear ending. Wheels were a bit blistered too and the brakes were possibly rusty.
Oh yes that the engine bay needed a bit of care and attention - but it was obviously a performance car - according to the sales man. Ooh aren't we lucky.
Thing that I noticed the most was the intense rattling on the inside, from the rear doors and windows, but put that down to the possible questionable build quality of the time.

Sinky,
Was in touch with Quinn Direct there (02866 34 7000), guess what?
They dont insure japanese imports anymore!
I think thats why there are so many for sale.
As far as i know Quinns were the only ones over here insuring them.

£32.05 per week now! Bastid renewal is in this morning.
but on the plus side sinky some of us won't actually be buying Viagra out of anything other than idle curiousity for a few years yet!

I take it thats fully comp?
Ive Been with Hughes for a while now and cant fault them.
My renewal with them is always cheaper than anyone else.
Had three cars in past year: Megane 2.0 16v, Calibra turbo and Fiesta turbo. all were around the 1k mark to insure.
hoping the scoob will be around the same?
anyway, im still on the lookout for an impreza to call my own!

Sorry to state the bleedin obvious but would you not need to get a quote sorted before worrying about buying the Scooby?
I'd dare say an Impreza "may" be a bit harder to insure than a Megane but hope you can prove me wrong!

well i suppose i should have been more clear.
I was leaning more towards my renewal in May. anyway, initial premium for fiesta turbo was £1,300 and they're listed over here as group 20 (believe it or not!)
Hope thats bledin obvious enough for ya. in a nice way of course chum.
