Advice for planning Ring trip?

Will try here 1st rather then General.
Seriously impressed by the number of Ring threads - must be a bunch of you who know the best way to organise?
Thinking of going in Spring with my father & 4 or 5 friends
and looking for some guidance/ tips etc
best route
hotels
chosing dates
making best of time @ Ring
costs
etc
The only bit I've got sorted is "knowledge" as father raced on the notorious circuit several times back in 60's so he's our guide
