Default Gauge in Facelift Classic, drivers side heater vent

Has anybody got any pictures of a gauge installed in the heater vent? And any tips on how to achieve this? I'm thinking this might be the best place to install a 60mm gauge as there seems very little pod options out there

What pod options have you looked at then?
You can get the triple pod holder to replace top cubby hole. Single, double or triple a-pillar pods. And also steering column pods.
This is where I get my pillar pods from, they look OE: http://www.nomadracing.com/catalog/i...0e36f4de874805

I have seen the pic of the heater vent one, pretty sure it was a 52mm gauge, and tight. Plus you are losing a heater vent.

I never use the heater vents anyway to be fair. I've heard the nomadracing ones are a bit rubbish?

I heard someone say that too, but can only assume it was a while back when they bought one. I've had a single pod and now have their double. But I had them in another car too.
Each time they have looked like an original item.
As with any online sale, you are covered by the distance selling regulations. So you can return it within 7 days, for whatever reason.

There is a lamco one for sale here: https://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-par...ost-gauge.html

That fits on the steering column as mentioned. Not sure what size. The heater vent is not really in that a good a posistion to look at either, I know the steering colum is lower, but not to far from eye level is ideal.

60mm gauge wont fit 52mm is max and its achieved by cutting the vent slats and fettling with a die grinder.

I'm thinking it would fit if I constructed something to go in place of the whole vent including the surround

I'm going to fill the smaller voids on the front with filler then...

I'm going to try and wrap the front with some dinoc 3m carbon I have in my shed. Hopefully that will be able to stay tight enough across the front. If so I plan on then filling it from the back with some casting resin or something similar..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2305288726...#ht_500wt_1180

Does that make sense to you? Any better ideas?

Thx

Or I've toyed with the idea of using some tights material to stretch over the front and paint that with some resin first before I try to wrap it.... Unsure really

I see your point.

What about expanding foam? It can then be carved, a thin layer of resin etc, and then carbon fibre.
The foam will help to support the gauge pod too.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of foam! Is it easy to carve to shape after filling as I guess it'd be impossible to keep any sort of shape when filling? And then just filler over the front to get a smooth shape?
Thx

yup

a half round file just to open up the vent so the gauge sat in it snugly and some superglue, not blocked off the open bits

That's worked so far.
Carbon fibre next?

Did your gauges come with those red pointers on the bezels?

Looks PDG to me.

Asked before: did those red pointers on the bezels come with the gauges? Mine never had any....

I haven't yet and don't think I'll bother as I never use the heater vents anyway, always just have it on the windscreen or windscreen/feet really...

I will

Problem I have now is where to stop, as one side carbon wrapped will look odd! So guess I'll have to do the passenger side vent also.. but then what else

well done mate, I done the same sort of thing with my centre vents ive fitted 3 prosport gauges there as i never use the vents but i used sheetmetal and fibre glass but recessed it a little the hardest part was filling and sanding for paint but its worth the effort.
