Default Defi problem

Hope you guys can help as I'm stumped!

Bought a set of defi meter gauges and link controller II with oil pressure, oil temp and boost. Followed the guide on here and all seemed pretty straight forward until switching them on and only the boost gauge worked. The oil temp and pressure were showing the 'wire disconnection check'. It says it's not a short circuit but not detecting the sensor but the sensors are definetely connected to the correct port on the controller and on the sensor.

I've got a spare cable for each and have tried changing them but with no change. The guy I bought them from said they were working fine in his car before he stripped them and I would tend to trust him as I've bought a few other bits with no problem.

Not really sure what else to do or try. Any suggestions?

Cheers

Steven

1. Add an extra earth wire from the body of the sensor to the battery earth terminal.
2. Bell out the leads.
3. Check they are plugged in the correct sockets.

Also: check the connection ON the leads, usually about 6-12" from the sensor. It can get oily, wet, or just pulled apart.

Make sure that the sensor leads are plugged into the correct holes on the back of the control and securely in, they click when in.
Make sure that the daisy-chain wires go to mthe SAME connector on neach gauge, and from the No1 outlet on the control box for white face and No2 outlet for the BF gauges, iirc.

Out of interest: which gauge works? The first on the daisy chain? If so, suspect the daisy chain arrangements. If not, suspect the sensor wiring.
Where are your sensors screwed into?

I'll check the connections just to double check at the sensor ends.

The sensor cables are all colour coded but checked again and even used spare leads to check the connections. The daisy chain on the gauges was connected when I got but double checked anyway and they are the same and also it is white gauges that are coming from outlet 1.

the boost guage works and it is the first on the chain. But the start up sequence all works fine as if the 2nd and 3rd gauges are get their signals.

The oil temp sensor is on the blanking hole on No.3 cylinder and the oil pressure is on the OE location.

Cheers for all the suggestions!

So..........have you used PTFE tape on the threads of the tappings the senders are screwed into? If so, dunx's idea of earthing the sender body, is good.

If that doesn't work, you may need a new sender.

Yes, used ptfe tape on both senders.

Swapped the boost and oil pressure cables round on the controller and the oil pressure gauge was Reading 2 bar so I guess the controller and cables to the gauges are working fine.

I'll be doing the other checks tomorrow so I'll let you know what else happens.

Senders are defo fooked. Warning signal keeps changing from wire disconnected to short circuit.

On the lookout for some senders now so if anyone has oil pressure or oil temp (that they know for sure works) give me a shout please.

Cheers,
Steven

Try Nito on here, he used to have Defi stuff, may still have some.

It amazes me how they are fooked........I mean, there are NO moving parts? You did carefully check the large connector close to the actual sender, did you?

Checked it and double checked. After a bit of messing about with the connector the signal on the gauge changed from wire disconnection to short circuit. Something is not right but before spending some money just wanted to make sure by plugging into someone elses to see what happens.

I'll try nito and see what's what.

Sounds like the problem IS at that connector.

Can you get the connectors apart, ie: get the pins/females out of the plastic blocks and see what's what? I have both and could look at colours on mine if it helps?

Got my new sensors today. Tried them out and everything works fine.

Glad it's working now but annoyed that I gad to buy new sensors after buying everything in the first place.
