Default defis backlight stopped working?

Hey all,

Car is an 03 STi - defis are going on 4 years old now I think?

Started the car this evening and found that my defi gauges have suddenly stopped being back lit! The wiring is from where the clock used to be and so the bright switch used to switch the backlights on and off. Funnily enough the defi unit that sends the signal to the gauges still lights up and turns off via the bright switch. So the wiring must be ok?

Is it possible that the defi box has blown a fuse for the lights or something? Or even failed ? Is that likely? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks
Kosta

The controllers do fail unfortunately.

Are the dials still working as they should other than the backlight?

If the dials aren't working at all, then it wll be the controller.

HTH. Neil.

Gauges still work perfectly fine. They still swoop, still play pause rewind, peak, record etc just no light :-(

Check conectors at the rear of the control box and the first Defi gauge in the daisy chain.

If ALL don't work, it's probably either that or the box.

I've disconnected all the daisy chains, tried plugging them in individually. Again they still function, just no back lights :-(

I would have thought if the box failed the whole lot wouldn't work, not just the backlights. The warning lights etc still flash too...

Is your controller the STi genome type, or the type 2 Defi?

If it is the type 2 try swapping the output into the other plug.

Type 2 Defi it is.

I have found the problem though. I couldn't see the back of the defi controller due to it being mounted in the glove box. I took it off and found that the yellow lead off the output connector had worked it's way loose, and when touched back into place my defis were back in action. So I just need to get in there and resolder.. which should be fun.

Thanks for your help guys

Hmmmmmmmmm. might be a tad easier to contact a dealer and buy a new lead....for a fe £ delivered it's what I'd do.

Just tell 'em where it goes from and to and it's approx length.
