the gaitor is connected to the silver surround via nut and bolt, which also attaches to the plastic trim/panel that the gear stick sits in.
Easiest thing to do is to unclip the transmission tunnel trim, then you can get access to the bolts under, and unscrew with an allen key from the top.
Hopefully that makes sense, as i kinda played it out how i did it in my head!
