Not sure on the Classic but my Newage had two L-Shaped brackets that bolted into the bash and the sides of the stereo.

As far as I know the classic was not designed i the days of double DIN hence why its such a pain to get one to stay in place.
They is a little metal lip/bracket type thing just under the ashtray, Its a good enough point to fix a bracket to I would have thought, but out of the box a double DIN wont just plug and play.
I might be proven wrong about this, but as far as I know thats the case.

I've gotta 97 Type r with a double din. Fitted a new shape UK speck radio the other day.

When you've taken the surrond off(goes all the way round the gear stick) there should be 4 screws holding a cage inplace 2 near the top and 2 near the bottom!! Quite obviouse. Then ALL of the dash inc the ash tray below will slide out then there is 2 screws on each side! Just unplug and do in reverse to fit!!

Hope this helps was quite stieght forward
