Default Defi or Apexi Gauges

Hi,

I am looking to have my new car very soon and am now looking at some of the things that I will need to be doing to it. Gauge wise at the moment I am torn between either white faced Defi's or white Apexi EL2's. The car I am getting will be a 1997 Type R Version 4 so will have the white face lift dash.

Which of these gauages are going to look better against the standard gauges when illuminated. I have searched the net countless times looking for pictures but can't find any. Can anyone help as spending over £500 on gauges I'd like to have some idea of what they will look like.

Cheers

Matt

Thanks a lot for that it's exactly what I am looking for. Could you tell me what colour the dash illuminates?

So I'm guessing the Defi's will give a more factory look than the Apexi's?

Guess its personal choice really....
White Defi's are like rocking horse manure but if you mangage to get hold of the one you want I have a 52mm Exhaust Temp guage going still in its box.

I have been looking about and can't find many about. I've found them from one retailer I had problems with in the past when trying to buy and AVCR so am reluctant to go there again. They do look so much better than black faced gauges though taking into account the dash. Thanks for the offer of the Exhaust Temp but just looking for the essentials to get me going. I'm quite surprised that Subaru's don't have anything fitted standard but then again factory gauges sometimes are not worthwhile.

Does anyone have pictures of the Apexi's fitted? These seem more readily avaliable in white.

Hi mate, picked it up from Scoobyclinic along with the Zero Sports beauty on the dash.
They do 1/2/3 pods both in 52/60mm pillar pods. The match to the original colour and texture is perfect. You really cant tell the difference, and I'm more than fussy!!

I have the apexis fitted in mind but they do not match the dash the way they defis do, they light up blue.

I've tried so many places and am now quite gutted as I think they look outstanding. The best I can find is the Defi DIN gauges but I'll still need the boost gauge and really wanted the three together. Are there any other gauges that look as factory as the Defi's?

banny sti do you have any of the pictures of the Apexi's and dash illuminated?

I've just been looking at some GReddy gauges that are white faced and illuminate green. Are GReddy as trusted ad Defi and Apexi as the price is still high but obviously if they are worth the money then that's not a problem.

The other option I'm thinking is an EL dash to match the Apexi's. Has anyone done this?

Stevo210. Gorgeous pics mate. I have the standard 99 sti lamco guages as in the pic below your but would love to ge something like yours. Where did you get your guage holder for the centre and pillar. Normally dubious about the quality but yours look spot on!

Guys as I have the standard Subaru guages would I not need any extra "bits" to wire up the defi guages?
Out in japan so can probably get them at a reasonable price!
Sorry to jump in on the threa but your pics were just too sexy to ignore LOL

The white faced/green illuminated DEFI's do still come up from time to time. Took me a few months to build up my "collection". 52mm Boost gauge and Oil Temp.
check on here, and ebay.

I think I'm going go start with a cheap boost gauge so at least I know what's going on with boost then look about for a set of gauges. Anyone got any other boost gauges that are white with green illumination?

i still have some brand new Defi white faced green illumination gauges (limited quantity). Ex-Nitosport stock, have original dash painted Defi pods too.

These really are rare now and the ony ones that perfectly match the oe cluster.

PM for more details if interested.

Cheers

I would like to monitor more variables but do not want to litter the dash with more gauges so will look at the SPA dual gauges.

They won't look as good though

My car is currently having other work done but they could be made available within the month if you're interested (drop me a PM if so).

I've driven that car, and have copied the pillar mount, from the same place. Mine was a good match, took a bit of fettling with an abrasive wheel at top and bottom, to get a good fit, but now fits well.

I didn't have to cut any of the old pillar.
