Default 2003 STI Steering Wheel Centre

Hi All,

My 2003 STI has a silver steering wheel centre which I've always hated. 2004/5 STIs have a black centre which I much prefer. Does anyone know if these plastic centre sections are easily interchangeable, i.e. do they fit, and is the airbag going to go off in my face if I remove it!

Pics below to show you what I mean

The centre section contains the airbag module, so you would have to get this whole part and might not be easy to come by separately.

If you disconnect the battery +ve and leave a few minutes the airbag will be safe. You need a T30 Torx socket to remove the 2 screws either side of the wheel.

Why not paint your silver one black using plastic primer and satin black paint?
