Default gear ****

Sorry I know this has been posted a lot but mine is jammed on solid and can't find these specifics.

I'm guessing it is a normal thread - anticlockwise to loosen it?

If I'm going to have to put a lot of pressure on it I'll have to clamp the gear stick with something to stop the stress travelling into the gear linkage won't I?

Cheers

Yes, anti-clockwise to unscrew. You could try gripping the gear shaft under the gaiter with a pair of Mole grips.
