Clicking Speedo (Careful, Newbie Alert!)
#1
I have a 1997 STI3 & have 2 questions.
People keep saying MY00,MY01,MY99 etc.. how do you know what model it represents?? (I am probably being REALLY stupid), but if someone can put me out of my misery I would appreciate it!.
Secondly, my speedo makes a pretty anoying clicking sound which goes with the speed. The faster you go the faster it gets. It starts around 10mph & gets faster & faster etc. It is starting to drive me nuts cos I am mimicking the noise in my head AAAAaaaaarrgh someone please help!.

Tut tut, no one replying to a newbies question.
I was told I had a clicking speedo in a XR2i by the garage. they took out the binnacle and packed the speedo cable housing with grease, put it back in and it seemed to be cured. You could try this although I don't know how much work's involved on a Scoob.
The noise came back again so I thought I would do it myself, due to lack of grease I ended up driving with the instruments and cable on the passenger footwell and the clicking was still there???
Turned out to be some solenoid or valve or summat, replace under warranty.
Mike.

Regarding the MY00, MY99 etc question:
MY simply stands for Model Year (so your's is a MY97)
It doesn't tell you anything else.
Usually if the actual model (UK, WRX, STi, P1, 22b, RB5, Terzo, Catylunia etc etc) is relevant to the discussion, people will state it in full.
Welcome to the board!

Before you do, and since I don't want to be responsible for you having a box of bits, maybe try somewhere like ravensblade-impreza.com, they've got a good section on modifications so there's probably details of how to remove the instruments.
Be warned though, you'll probably see loads of other stuff you fancy doing.
