Rattle in roof
#1
Can any help. MY98 UK scooby has developed a rattle in the roof, I have a factory fitted elec run roof, which works fine. It sounds like a cable is loose and it's a pain in the a@se. Any suggestions very welcome.

Leigh,
Same problem in my 98. Difficult though to pin-point exactly what is rattling or where it comes from. I do not have a sunroof though.... so its not that !! It is at head level and appears to come from the front screen pillar.... aerial/aerial mounting, sun visor mountings or headlining? .....I don’t really know. Seems to be more constant now and is starting to annoy me !

hi...
i get this too (no sunroof either though). for me its more of a scratchy kind of rattle. i thought it was a wire at first, or maybe coming from the inside lights (the ones near the visors), but it still seems to happen even if i take them off. i'd rather the next step not be removing the whole roof lining et al!
its annoying as hell, so i'd appreciate it if anyone who finds what it could be would post it here...
thx..

I've found the problem. Subaru must have been on a cost cutting exercise, they used normal parcel tape to hold in place a number of cables. You have to take out the 4 lugs at the back of the roof, take out both of the handles, the slowely pull out the roof lining, in the middle at the back is one area, and about 30cm in from either door pillar. Remove the old tape and replace with electircal tape, problem gone away!!
The lining goes back in really easy.
