Well, actually I am really interested only in a boost gauge. But I think an instrument panel in the centre will look much cooler than a single gauge on the steering wheel or in the corner of the windscreen.

What would be the least costly gauges (from the product and fitting point of view)?

Since I can't buy any performance upgrades (due to full 3-year UK warranty) I've gone the "superficial/cosmetic" route

 

I really like the idea of converting the compartment in the middle/top of the dash (not sure what the technical name of it is ) into a multi-gauge instrument panel.

So far I've come accross the following options:

1. Scoobymania: 3 gauges + pod = £630
2. Graham Goode: 3 gauges + pod = £260
3. DIY: pod = £60 (from Subaru accessories), gauges @ £40 each (from PE)?

Do you have any other ideas / suggestions? How much will it cost to fit? I am not a handy-man myself and had a quote from Power Engineering - £40 to fit a single boost gauge (backlit).

My budget is about £300 including fitting. Is this realistic or should I just forget about it?

First you must compare like for like. The GGR gauges will be worth about £100/120.

Scoobymania are probably quoting for HKS, or SPA gauges that would cost about £300/500. An exhaust gas temp' gauge would cost £200 minimum.

So, decide on what you want to monitor, then compare the gauge options from the suppliers. SPA gauges are twin readouts, ie. oil temp/oil pressure, EGT/boost, etc'. So you could get away with 1/2 gauges, depending on you requirements.

Personally speaking and due to poor eyesight and the limited range of my vision. (that'll make you stay out of my way on a track ! )

i found boost gauge on the steering column to be ideal, whereas in the centre its a little small and far away for accurate reading.

exhaust gas temp is a damn good idea tho, i might be tempted to have one with a little warning light just so i know it might go pop.

The GGR pod is crap. If you only want a boost gauge then get the PE pod and whatever gauge you want - Andy Tang has a nice one. Or get the official subaru one from Bob Rawle, its only worth changing the centre pod if you want 2/3 gauges. In that case Scoobymania gives you pucker kit.

That pic is NOT the Dutch one. That is a pic that Sunil sent me to show what HIS looked like (though I don't think it is in fact a picture of his actual dash). It was for illustration purposes so I could say to the wife - doesn't that look nice & get some. It didn't work

I also believe that the Dutch ones are not white dialed at that price (bit extra) & the price quoted includes all bits & instructions (& VAT ) & postage to arrive at your house for a DIY job.

Andrei, those are HKS electrical gauges fitted to the forestor pod. This set-up can be got from Mike at Scoobymania as they import them from MRT (which is where the pic is sourced from)
