Turbo Timer
Hi,
I'm pretty new to the scooby scene and am still finding my feet.
I have a 02 WRX in black, i have heard that it is recommended that i get a turbo timer. I only knew what one of these were yesterday, and they seem like quite a good idea.
Can someone recommend a fairly decent one to me, which is also fairly cheap. I have noticed some 2nd hand ones on another part of the forum, but like i say i dont know much about them....
Does anyone have any pictures of them installed ?
How do i install one, or would it be better for someone else to do it
Thanks
m

Welcome to Scoobynet, mate. Hope you enjoy your Scooby ownership
A turbo timer is a device that keeps the engine running for a set time after you take the key out of the ignition. The reason for this is that after a hard run, the turbo makes the oil so hot, that it needs to slowly cool down to the temp in line with rest of the engine and the atmosphere. Usually only a few minutes.
Alternatively, you could quite easily sit in the car for a few minutes while it's cooling down, or drive slowly for a mile or two before the destination, and sit in the car for a minute before turning the engine off.
It's not really neccesary, but it's a good gadget to have to impress others around you.

Yes they would invalidate your insurance...
The best smallest timer i found is the Blitz DCII FATT...Does wonders..have had 2 scoobys, and got one fitted each time..
I bought them off Ebay for i think £70...
Installation:
Fairly easy, fitted my self...have instructions in PDF if you require, but people charge an arm and a leg to have these fitted! Took me bout an hour!
What it involves:
Take off the stearing colum
Take off the panel
Locate the steering couper
Plug the Turbo timer harness into the coupler, the other end into the T/Timers box, the purple wire goes to the hand brake cable found by opening the center cousole...and earth the black wires.
If you need the instructions give me a shout..

i've been put off buying a turbo timer because i can't see how it'll work with the anti-hijack feature of my alarm (toad Ai606)
the way i see it is when i exit my car and set the alarm, the turbo timer will keep my engine running (won't that set off the alarm anyway?), when the turbo timer shuts down my engine the anti-hijack will open my doors, won't it?
i might just be being a bit thick but does anyone know of way around this?

The point of a Turbo Timer is so that it turns off the car when the turbo's have cooled down..
The way i do it, is i switch off the ignition, and wait for the car to switch off before i leave the car, or if i am in my garage or just outside work, i lock it with the key then alarm it from the window.
