Default STI8 steering wheel on a classic MY00/STI5 etc?

Has anyone tried the above and what was required to get it to fit?

Thanks,

There was a dicussion about this recently and someone raised concerns that the airbag on the new car is design to work on them and maybe unsafe to retro fit to a lighter classic.

Not sure if there's any weight (no pun intended) in that argument, but it's worth checking.

I did

It bolts straight on using the original spinner in the back.
It will bring a light up on the dash as the airbag isn't connected.

We tried to fit the STI8 steering wheel into an bugeye WRX but it didn't work without bigger changes. But I also saw an 2.5 RS MY00 with a STI8 wheel, so maybe you should try it.

It is a MY97 classic.
I did look into connecting the airbag, but as I haven't had the car for 7 weeks due to someone driving into it, I haven't done anything about it.
Not sure I will after the warnings of fitting an airbag from a different car in the other thread.

would be interested to here about the wiring.
According to the STI 8 manual I have there are 2 wires to a 2 pin yellow connector on the back of the wheel. These come direct from the SRS ECU, but no info is provided with regard to their polarity. Hence cannot check and match the polarity to the earlier cars wiring.

I am looking to get an STi 8 wheel for an MY00 so would like find the solution.
