Defi wiring

It's always annoyed me how my Defi's do not retain the warning value after I turn the engine off. is it possible for it to memorise it at all? Have I wired it wrong?

You must have wirde it wrong. There should be one wire that ALWAYS have +12 Volt and one the goes on with the turing the key operation, i.e. same as turns on your cd-player.
