I undid the big bolt in the middle.

Any ideas?

It's probably on a tapered spline, Normally you'd leave the nut on a couple of turns so that when you pull the wheel off it doesn't smack you in the head. The push from the back on one side of the wheel with your knee, and bang the other side with your hand. then the wheel should come off and just unplug any wires
but if this is the momo airbag wheel i would not try this myself
Airbags contain explosive charges and should be left alone.

assuming you have removed the airbag and unplugged it (just disconnect battery for at least 1/2 hour first) just give it a damn good wiggle, possibly squirt some wd40 onto the spline area as well. removed my wheel from a MY98 came off pretty easily.

As for the airbag, not sure why everyone is soooo scared of them, i work at the ford transit assembly plant, and believe me the airbag units dont just go off, we have NEVER had one explode, quite surprising considering the abuse they get (dropped/kicked etc etc)

No airbag at all.

Undid the big main nut in the middle of the steering wheel and pulled, pulled and it still wouldnt come off.

So that big nut is all what holds it on then?

The "big nut" is all that holds ot on!!

Put the nut back on a few turns and wiggle the wheel back and forth with your hands on either side.

Make sure you put the nut on first or you WILL break your nose when it lets go!!!!!!!

Put the nut back on till its about 4 turns from being tight. Then take one big hammer, And hit the nutsquare on (the shock will remove it off the splines) works everytime. Dont go at it thou like a bull at a gate. Just treat it with respect , couple off sharp blows and it will come off. Honest.

Been there and done it many times on HGV and other cars

I had this problem. The owner in japan had threadlocked the bugger on. Eventually got it off using some bearing pullers. Apart from that you'll just have to use some brute force

Toy.
